Toyota Industries Reveals New Fuel Cell Forklift

Toyota Industries (Toyota Shokki) has revealed a new fuel cell powered forklift truck, co-developed with Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. The forklift has been developed as part of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) project ‘Kitakyushu Smart Community Creation Project’. Toyota Industries first prototyped a fuel cell forklift in 2005 and has been working on a commercial model since.Two of this latest model, which has a continuous power rating of 8 kW and a maximum output of 32 kW, and an accompanying 350 bar hydrogen refuelling station will be deployed at Toyoda Gosei’s Kitakyushu site. The hydrogen will be supplied from the by-product of a nearby steel plant. The demonstration will run until March 2014.
